Executive Overview of Higher Education Funding in Belgium
The Belgian federal government, along with regional authorities like the Flemish Ministry of Education and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, manages a well-structured higher education funding framework. As a premier global education hub, Belgium aligns its degree programs with the European NFQ framework and the ECTS credits structure. This setup allows students to transfer credits easily across European universities.
Regional bodies offer tuition fee coverage, a monthly living allowance, and research grants to encourage international research collaboration. These programs evaluate applicants based on academic merit and professional experience. They also offer strategic funding to support educational mobility and institutional cooperation between Belgian universities and global partners.
