As part of the nation’s Vision 2031 strategy, the UAE is transforming its economy into a global innovation economy and premier global education hub.
To attract high-achieving international scholars, government bodies and universities provide tuition fee coverage, a monthly living allowance, and substantial research grants. Valid English Proficiency Alternative Proof Mechanisms
International applicants can meet language admission standards without an IELTS test through several officially recognized alternatives. The primary option is a Medium of Instruction (MOI certificate), which confirms your previous university taught and assessed all coursework in English.
| Verification Option | Accepted Threshold / Standard | Institutional Coverage |
| MOI Certificate | Official stamped letter from previous university | Accepted across major UAE research universities |
| EmSAT English | Score of 1400 – 1550+ | Official UAE national standardized benchmark |
| Duolingo English Test (DET) | 110 – 125+ overall score | Accepted by select private and international campuses |
| TOEFL iBT | 79 – 90+ overall score | Standard academic acceptance across the UAE |
| Pearson Test (PTE Academic) | 58 – 65+ overall score | Recognized across most graduate departments |
The UAE also uses its national testing standard, the EmSAT English exam, which applicants can take upon arrival. Certain departments evaluate candidates using an online placement exam or a direct video interview evaluation. Candidates who completed prior studies in an English-speaking country can receive a formal language exemption letter upon academic board approval.
Comprehensive Candidate Eligibility and Academic Guidelines
